Lesson 4: Delicious as a Personal & Social Study Tool

Think

1.
a) 5 years ago: less than 20 %
I had not got my own personal computer , although my family had one for all of us at that time. I researched on hobby stuff such as movies, books and music on the web.

b) 2 years ago: up to 95 %
I already had got my own PC and I started working at a private clam school as instructor. I had not got much time to research stuff in the library or other other researhing place. So I did most of research on the web.

c) Now: 80 %
I live in the dorm and there is always someone specialized in each topic such as computing, travel, studying stuff and having fun. I spend less on the web than before.

2. I bookmark that site on the browser. or I write it down in case some troble on the computer happens

3. We use email and attach the adress to the sites or I can upload the adress on my Facebook and mixi pages and other social networking sites.

Do
There are mainly three things I learned in the video;

1. I learned I should name my account something reflecting my personality at several place such and office. Also If we are paying attention to security problems, we should not use kerberos password for Delicious(However, Now I'm using kerberos password for Delicious. Is it okay?)

2.We can put tag not only words but also other specific users and group. With tagging, we can send site address to each one of person or group who was tagged. They can choose save or not save.

3. I did not know that we can search sites with entering only "keywords" but also we can use the account name and group name. These are very useful when these group are categorized by their interests and speciality. In the case of Google searching, sometimes "keywords" brings with nothing but only meaningless information which we do not need because Google search collect and apply "all" the information on the web. In this case, it is troublesome and takes a lot of time to search information which we pursue. In contrast, Delicious enables us to remove useless information from someone we do not know and refer to the information of someone we know well and can rely on.

17. I added accounts of Eriko, Natsumi, Nagisa and Masa to my network.

Explain

1. How to name tag and how to find suitable tag for what you want to search are the most important skills. As Same thing can be applied to other searching engine such as Google and yahoo, Delicious demand its user to learn technique in searching with combination of word.
There are uncountable numbers of combination of word and users are supposed to choose most suitable pair or group of them. Unless, only there will be poor answer for the searching.

2.
Now I added some of my classmate from this course and I know who they are and what their interested in. For example, since I know Nagisa is in a model UN(my roommate, too!) and I think she's interested in international situation, I can tag her the news sites and blogs on international situation I found on the web and I can use her bookmarking for my researchng on that kind of stuff in return. Although I have not added much people in my network on Delicious, I can added them in the future.

3.By joining groups, we can find others who have same interests as us. Since the groups are beyond borders with the standing feature of the internet, we are provided with a great amount of information on what we prefer. If we want to narrow the range of information, we have only to add new keywords or people tag to the searching enegine.
Also, when we are doing groupworks, this social bookmarking function will lead us to a big success. We can make new group and bookmark the sites we find on the research for the presentaion. That help us when you want to know what information others are based on.

4. I learned and felt "sharing" is the keyword for this lesson.
It is less time-consuming to sharing the sites' adrress online and that we do not have to meet people in the face in order only to pass them the information you have. However, it is dangerous at the same time to share the information with others(this is same case as Social Networking) because Delicious enables us to be connected to whom we have not met and, in addition, give them the information that might be enough to identify us. Though I am not sure how much people are using real name and fake name for Delicious, there always be danger. We should have enough consideration when I add and make account for the sites on the web. In short, we have to be aware of the risk and danger.

  1. Keita, What I especially like about your answer on this occasion, is that your comments are informed by actually doing some social research with Nagisa. I hope you can continue to benefit from the socialness of doing shared research. You mention 'danger' a couple of times, without really defining what the problem/issue is - this is always a good idea. I imagine you must have also been pretty busy over this period, as your answer does not have the usual depth or quality of English - it is still good, but not quite as strong as your previous answers. Grade: B+
